Vanilla Ice Downunder

Robert Van Winkle, does the name mean anything to you? How about Vanilla Ice; no, still pretty vague, no wonder, he enjoyed fleeting fame in 1990 with his ‘hit’ Ice Ice Baby.

It had a similar cringe value as Achy Breaky Heart. The difference is that where Billy ray Cyrus has seemed to manage his infamy quite well, Rob (Ice) has struggled trying to distance himself from his image.

As you can see in the image below, his current look is very different from his pre 2000 days.

Van Winkle claims he was a hard as nails white rapper who went to a mainly black high school and led a life of crime. Yeah right. The truth is was a spoiled preppy who grew up in an upper-middle-class family in Dallas, Texas.

His troubles dealing with his past image were revealed on the The Surreal Life. He has also had the usual problems with drug addiction, as well as several suicide attempts.
