Carey & Girlfriend Split

Disgraced AFL star Wayne Carey and his girlfriend of two years, Kate Neilson, have split, sources close to the Carey family have revealed.

The source, who wishes to remain unnamed, told News Limited earlier that the couple were now officially separated.

“It was amicable, and they are both moving forward in their lives,” the source said.

However, 26-year-old Neilson has denied the split, claiming that the relationship is still on track, and that she and Carey are simply ‘taking a break’.

“There are up and down moments, but I’m going to go away and Wayne and I will hopefully get things back on track, and things will be more positive in the future,” Ms. Neilson said from her home.

“I’m just going away for a week or two to clear my head - just to get away from Melbourne for a bit.”

The Carey source scoffed at Ms. Neilson’s claims, adding that the break up occurred after a “wild night” which saw Neilson and her partying friends photographed at a Melbourne nightclub last week.

Neilson and Carey have been living apart for the past eight weeks, when news of the former Kangaroos star’s assault on a Miami police officer first hit the Australian media. Carey had allegedly smashed a wine glass into model Neilson’s face before U.S. police arrived on the scene of the domestic dispute.
