Bingle & Clarke Describe New York Proposal
April 2, 2008
Model Lara Bingle and her test cricketer fiance Michael Clarke have spoken to New Idea about their fairytale engagement in New York City, upon returning to the golden shores of Australia.
Clarke proposed to girlfriend Bingle at the Rockefeller Centre iceskating rink, after a horse and carriage ride through Central Park, and presented her with a $200,000, 4.7 carat diamond ring.
“Surprisingly, there was nobody around and it was a full moon,” Clarke, 27, said.
“I pulled the ring box out of my pocket, opened it, bent down on one knee and asked Lara: ‘Will you marry me?”’
Twenty-year-old Bingle said she was so excited that she cried when she accepted Clarke’s proposal, and couldn’t stop admiring her new sparkler.
“There were tears running down my face, I was over the moon,” she said.
“I started leaping up and down, checking out my ring.”
While their engagement has progressed rather quickly considering the short time they’ve been together, Clarke insists there is no wedding or children on the horizon just yet.
“We’re enjoying our engagement one day at a time, and right now we’re not thinking about children,” Clarke said.
