Aussie Johns Impresses on American Idol

March 27, 2008

Michael Johns Wows the Judges on American IdolPerth-born singer Michael Johns has impressed the judges on this year’s series of American Idol, blitzing the other contestants with a performance that Cowell described as “the only memorable one of the night.”

In this week’s show, the contestants had to choose two songs from the year they were born, and as Johns’ birthyear was 1978, he chose two Queen songs: We Are The Champions and We Will Rock You. Â

After Johns had belted out his classic rock tunes, the judges were full of nothing but praise for the only Australian contestant in the competition.

Judge Randy Jackson said: “You believed in yourself, this was your best performance since you’ve been on the show.”

Paula Abdul believed that this was truly Johns’ shining moment. “I am so proud of you,” she told him.

The show’s very own Mr. Grumpy, Simon Cowell, also had nothing but compliments for the Aussie singing sensation, leaving viewers to wonder whether Johns might very well go all the way to the show’s finale.

“This is the first time I’ve seen your true star potential, you got it right and behaved as a front person and this was the only memorable performance of the night,” Cowell said.

The results show for American Idol will be shown on Foxtel tonight at 5.30 p.m.
